Staff Picks to Get Your Pet Ready for Allergy Season

Staff Picks and tips for getting your pet ready for allergy season

At Pet Grocer™ we know how important it is to start treating seasonal allergies before they begin to show symptoms. Just like with humans, our goal is to get the body's histamine sensitivity lowered before the body becomes inflamed, itchy, and mucousy.

Here are some of our staff's favourite picks to prep your pet's body for environmental seasonal allergies:

Support Detoxifying Organs With one of these great products:

  • Adored Beast Liver Tonic

Liver Tonic is an essential support/detoxifier, making it an excellent organ support for dogs and cats.

It supports the health of the portal (organ) system to remove toxins, helps regenerate healthy liver cells, boosts the organ’s ability to filter toxins from the blood, aids in proper function of histamine (associated with allergies, chronic inflammation), protein synthesis and biochemical production for digestion.

  • Four Leaf Rover Liver & Kidney Clean
Liver & Kidney Clean is a veterinary formulated blend of organic mushrooms, foods and herbs that support and maintain normal liver and kidney function.
Liver/Kidney Clean is like spring cleaning for your dog's most important organs.
Every day, dogs are exposed to toxins in their food, water and environment. This toxic "waste" includes lead and heavy metals, glyphosate and other pesticides, as well as fluoride, PCBs, plastics and other common chemicals.
The liver and kidneys break these toxins down and help exit them from the body. But, over time, they can be impacted by the toxins and start to decline. This puts not just the liver and kidneys at risk, but all of your dog's organs.
  • Probiotics

Probiotics are live organisms that provide health benefits to their host, whether that's your dog, cat, or even you. Probiotics offer a myriad of benefits for your pet's digestive health. They can alter the local acidity of the digestive tract, release short-chain fatty acids, and provide protection against harmful bacteria like salmonella.1 By improving gut microbiota balance, reducing inflammation, and enhancing immune function, probiotics contribute to overall well-being and help protect against intestinal infections. Keeping the gut in balance plays a huge role in keeping the immune system at its peak and supporting skin health.

  • Four Leaf Rover Harmony
Skin problems aren’t just skin-deep - they can be a sign that your dog isn’t healthy on the inside.
Harmony is an exciting formulation that targets seasonal and environmental allergies, as well as all the organs that support healthy skin. It’s a veterinarian-formulated blend of skin and organ detoxifiers like broccoli sprouts and spirulina, proven performers like quercetin, L-theanine and Chinese skullcap to support a normal histamine response, along with soothing organic herbs.
Harmony is the next generation approach to calm, healthy skin and dogs. Made with clean, organic ingredients and no fillers.
  • Furbabies CBM products
Furbabies products are full spectrum natural cannabimimetic oil (more than just cbd), and more than just hemp.
    • Natural cannabimimetic and hemp terpene blend infused oral drops
    • Made with beneficial MCT oil derived from coconut oil
    • Can reduce allergies
    • Promotes healthy skin and coat
    • Effective relief from all forms of general inflammatory and neuropathic pain

Other Tips:

Target the source of the irritants. While we can't get rid of all irritating offenders we can decrease them in our environments.

  • Feed your pet a biologically appropriate fresh diet that supports their best health. The less processed the better. If you are new to fresh feeding and feeling overwhelmed, start small. Add fresh meats and pet safe veggies as a topper to their current diet. Have questions about feeding fresh? Come by and chat, we love to help!
  • Wipe surfaces: Manually removing pollen and irritants from hard surfaces is as simple as regular dusting and wipe downs. Use damp rags, electrostatic or microfiber cloths and trap that itch inducing debris for good.
  • Remove chemicals from the environment as much as possible: Toxins in the air and on surfaces can be irritating to skin and the respiratory system. Choose safer, natural options when reaching for soaps, household cleaners, fabric refreshers, room sprays, and laundry supplies.
  • Clear the air: Remove chemical fragrance (air freshners, scented candles, fabric softener, plug ins, fabric refresher) from your home environment. These seemingly delightful scents are packed full of chemical compounds that cling to the air and soft surfaces in our homes. For pets and humans this can lead to itchiness, discomfort, and inflammation in the body. There are many safer ways to keep your air scented using pet safe, quality essential oils.
  • Wipe down your pet at the end of the day: You know that yellow powdery mess that we find all over our yard come pollen season? When pollen counts are high, our pets collect pollen on their fur and track it back into the house. Giving them a quick wipe down with a damp cloth at the end of the day helps to keep extra pollen off of them and out of the house.
  • Vacuum or wash soft surfaces regularly: Pollen, dust, and debris love to collect in carpets, soft upholstery, blankets, beds, and pillows. Cleaning these surfaces regularly helps keep airborne irritants from being released into the air or inhaled when snuggled up.
  • Use holistic bug repellents: Choosing holistic options for repelling fleas, ticks, and mosquitos from your pet (and your family) lessens chemical exposure, helps support healthy skin, and is better for the environment.
